REVIEW: I Hate Fairyland #2

I Hate Fairyland #2
Story & Art by Skottie Young
Colours by Jean-Francois Beaulieu
Letters by Nate Piekos of Blambot®

Let’s judge this book by its cover… The art is simply a joy. Faultless. Zombie horde vs Gertrude. I don’t like their odds.

Meet Gertrude, an 8 year old girl that wanted nothing more than to have a wonderful adventure in a magical land.

Last issue her wish was granted and she was whisked away to Fairyland. There she met the beautiful queen Cloudia who told Gertrude that to return home she would have to go on an adventure and simply find the magical key, the adventure would last no longer than a day…. That was 27 years ago and still no luck.

Her time in Fairyland has made Gertrude a little…. Dark. Causing nothing but trouble and killing anyone that crosses her (including the moon and most of the stars) Queen Cloudia hires a huntsman to kill her and rid Fairyland of her forever. That’s where this issue begins, not liking that plan very much, Gertrude has looped off the huntsman head with his own axe and kept it for herself. After too many drinks she heads back out on her “adventure” for the key home. Queen Cloudia is not out of ideas however and contacts a powerful witch called Horribella and hires her to kill Gert. Using her evil magics she spells the innocent locals of a small town and transforms them into the Walking Dead. Out numbered and armed with just a stolen axe, how will Gert get out of this one…. With lots of chopping and slicing I would think. Hell hath no fury like a 37 year old woman trapped in the body of an 8 year old.

This book is too funny, from the hilarious art style to the writing this comic entertains with every panel. As horrible as the acts she commits are the simple fact remains, This girl just wants to go home to her family.

A must read, if you dint already have this in your pull list, add it now. 5 stars for this gem, that could easily become a classic.

Hey, I'm Shane.
Been into comics since I was about 5. Loved watching Wonder Woman and superboy in the 80's.
I Started reading seriously about 10 years ago. Began to collect a few comic series, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Teen Titans, Justice League of America and Superman Batman all pre flashpoint. Being honest that was my favourite run.
