REVIEW: Army of Darkness: Furious Road #1

Let’s judge this book by its cover… This one is very Evil Dead, Ash’s face is very well done and looks like Bruce Campbell, it also has a very comedic look to it that fits well in this universe.

Anyone that’s seen an Evil Dead movie or Watched the latest Ash vs the Evil Dead TV show will know exactly what they’re getting with this one, so for those of you that do not know Ash and his demon hunting antics let me get you caught up.

Ash and his pals went to a cabin in the woods for some booze and canoodling when they found a very harmless looking book made from the skin of a human face, they read from it and released demons from hell that take over dead bodies and use those dead bodies to make more dead bodies. Ash was the only survivor that night losing his hand in a fight for survival, he took the book to keep it safe. In some movies he’s traveled through time and fought monsters and demons and in the latest tv show he got high and read from the book again to impress a girl, he’s also a horn dog. Now armed with his chainsaw hand and shotgun he sends those deadites back to hell with a smile on his face and snarky one liner.

This book feels like you’re watching a movie or TV show, its writers really know the character and how it should feel overall. We get to meet a team of demon hunters made up of a Frankenstein’s monster, a reverent, a werewolf and a nun. You’re not gonna get a team like that on supernatural. The art is stunningly detailed, some really busy pages look effortless as the action catches your eye. Even if you’ve not read any previous evil dead books or seen any of the movies this is a great jumping on point for any fans of horror/ comedy. The gore is thick and fast and the action doesn’t ease up just the way I like it. Ash might be a major tool, but we wouldn’t have him any other way.

For any fans of Ash and for any fans of the genre this is a 5 star book and I’m a fan of both.

Hey, I'm Shane.
Been into comics since I was about 5. Loved watching Wonder Woman and superboy in the 80's.
I Started reading seriously about 10 years ago. Began to collect a few comic series, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Teen Titans, Justice League of America and Superman Batman all pre flashpoint. Being honest that was my favourite run.
