REVIEW: Batman Beyond #10

G’Day Crusaders,

This is Dodgy86 in the mix bringing you Batman Beyond # 10 by Dan Jurgens with art by Bernard Chang and Marcelo Maiolo.

Based several years into the future, Batman came to Metropolis to find his kid brother Matt McGinnis and there we find our favourite caped crusader of the future (actually, he’s not wearing a cape!) going toe to toe with an army of savage animal hybrid warriors. As Bats is laying the smackdown on these warriors, unbeknown what Matt finds in the ruins of the Justice League Watchtower.

Meanwhile the apartheid-like situation in Gotham City intensifies, as the underprivileged people are starving and are lacking water, shelter and clean clothes. The people want in, food is decreasing compared to thise within the wall. How much longer can Mayor Fox and Commissioner Gordon contain the lowerclass within the compounds of a massive wall?

From the very first page, this book is all out action. Besides the action, there is a lot going on and it is very busy, fortunately we have the legendary Dan Jurgens in the driver’s seat who eventually make all the piecese comes together. This book could easily had lost me as a reader, Jurgens’ ability to control the chaos proves he is a maestro. The art by veteran Bernard Chang gives life to Jurgens’ vision with fantastic splash pages and his designs of the killer animal hybrid warriors look awesome. Some of the panels lack color, a credit to Maiolo as this adds an effect to the action sequences.

I could not help but compare Batman Beyond’s cheekiness and talking whilst jumping around beating up bad guys to Spider-man. Nonetheless this is a lot of fun.

Do ya’self a favor and check it out!
