REVIEW: Cyborg #9

This was hard work. The “show don’t tell” ratio was way off as every dramatic moment was dragged to a screaming halt by an exposition dump. The villain of the piece rips all his clothes off to reveal himself as the love child of Doctor Octopus and Megatron and delivers a soliloquy long enough to win the award for longest after dinner speech at the local baddy convention.

The art suffers the same fate, not enough contrast to make all the busy line work stand out. Spray an ant farm with speed and throw a Mars bar at it and you get an idea how busy a lot of the pages are.

All this is a bit of a shame because there’s some fun to be had in this comic, one part of the final battle and the last page stand out with some nice characterization and humour, but wading through the comic to get to the islands of delight is, aforementioned, hard work. 2.9/5
