REVIEW: Descender #9

Story: Jeff Lemire
Art: Dustin Nguyen
Publisher: Image Comics
Release Date: 1/13/2016

The journey of Tim-21 continues this week with the release Descender #9. Tim and company continue their journey to the Machine Moon, and writer Jeff Lemire uses the free time to explore emotion through the eyes of a robot. Moving on without Bandit and Driller, as well as missing his brother weighs heavy on Tim. Tim-22 does his best to console Tim-21 and offer him insight on empathy. Elsewhere, Andy stumbles across an old friend and unlikely ally during his search for Tim. In what is probably the high point of the issue, Andy figures out a way to find Tim’s location and possibly reunite disconnected parties.

This issue was light on action, but still an enjoyable read. Lemire got to flex his writing muscle in this issue and Dustin Nguyen’s painted art continues to impress.

FINAL VERDICT: If you’re reading the series, you should be pleased with this chapter of the story. If you are not reading this series, you should be.
