REVIEW: Elasticator #1

Let’s judge this book by its cover… Such a playful cover, the mug shot pose has been done many times in comics and it’s one of my favourite staples. This is a great addition to those. The art is very clean and the blood stained toothy smile is a fantastic touch.

Micky is new in Brooklyn where his family had to move after his father lost his job, not too happy with leaving his friends and his life Micky is angry… Very angry. Meeting the local drug dealer and quickly becoming friends, Micky tells his story from a police interrogation room in cuffs and a skin-tight blood soaked masked costume. This book is a little unclear as to what exactly Micky became, a drug dealer? An enforcer? A vigilante? Or a cage fighter? As an issue one I would have liked it to be a little more clear but that won’t stop me from continuing Micky’s journey down memory lane in the next issue.

The art is truly stunning, each page is as beautiful as the last with some of the best faces I’ve seen in comics. The origin moves along at a decent pace, new characters are introduced quickly and either his team or his rouges gallery are shown in all their bloody gory. This is far from a superhero book as the cover would allude to, no super powers seem to be present as of yet. On the cover he seems to have elastic powers that the name would suggest but inside nothing. Nudity and foul language are added on top of the violence to make sure everyone knows this is for mature readers only.

For an issue one this isn’t bad, I’m interested to see where it goes, so for that I’ll give this one 4 stars.

Hey, I'm Shane.
Been into comics since I was about 5. Loved watching Wonder Woman and superboy in the 80's.
I Started reading seriously about 10 years ago. Began to collect a few comic series, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Teen Titans, Justice League of America and Superman Batman all pre flashpoint. Being honest that was my favourite run.
