REVIEW: Exodus: The Life After #1

Exodus: The Life After #1
Writer: Joshua Hale Fialkov
Artist: Gabo
Publisher: Oni Press

Let’s judge this book by its cover… What it lacks in bright colours it makes up for in weird, eye catching strangeness. Giant rabbits, businessmen and city skyline all add to this odd cover. At a glance it gives nothing away.

If you’re sitting comfortably we can begin… We start on a man getting ready for work, he heads to the bus stop and boards a bus. At the same time a young girl is instructed my an older man to plant a bomb on the bus and waits for the explosion. The bomb detonates but somehow the bus continues. Before the pair have a chance to question this they are attacked by what they call an “Angel” a horribly disfigured creature more machine then anything else. The pair decapitate the Angel and escape into the sewer and back to their hideout. I’m going to have to stop there.

This book is a little all over the place. Demons and Angels, giant talking rabbits and gnomes. It’s hard to get a grip of what’s happening. For a first issue I feel like I’ve joined at the tale end of a story. The art is playful, a little too childish for the story.

For the art, cover and maybe from what I can gather the idea I’ll give it 2 stars. Sadly not what I was expecting.

Hey, I'm Shane.
Been into comics since I was about 5. Loved watching Wonder Woman and superboy in the 80's.
I Started reading seriously about 10 years ago. Began to collect a few comic series, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Teen Titans, Justice League of America and Superman Batman all pre flashpoint. Being honest that was my favourite run.
