Review : Invader Zim # 1

STORY BY: Jhonen Vasquez
ART BY: Aaron Alexovich
Publisher: Oni Press

G’day All,

Dodgy86 is in the mix, today bringing you Invader Zim by Jhonen Vasquez with art by Aaron Alexovich and Megan Lawton.

The title character Zim (disguised as a school boy) is here on Earth with the goal of total rule!! The reality is, it’s a prank set up by Zim’s ruler to 1 – get him away from his native Irkens and 2 – to see if he can actually pull it off. Just like his home-world, Zim is unpopular at school.

Dib, a classmate of Zim can see through the charade and is obsessed to reveal what Zim really is and defeat him once and for all.

I loved the introduction by Recap Kid, an original way to introduce the story and characters. You can almost imagine his raspy voice based on his voice bubble! The characters’ facial expressions, especially the open mouths remind me of a Nickelodeon cartoon (which it is) and kept me smiling throughout this book. The dialog can be dry but is very witty!

This was loads of fun, check it out!
