REVIEW: Penny Dreadful #1

Let’s judge this book by its cover… A very stunning cover, striking in its design and eerie in its look.

For those that haven’t seen the tv show of the same name you could be a little put off, although the issue is easy to follow it feels like you need to watch the show to know the players. The book has the same chilling feel as the show thanks to the incredibly gorgeous but creepy artwork in every panel. Some panels feel a little too dark to see what’s going on.

Vanessa Ives is a psychic having visions of a woman fallen prey of a demonic vampire master and joins forces with Sir Malcolm Murrey to save the woman. While being attacked by wolves on their way one wolf is scared away by something it sees in Vanessa’s eyes, could she be something more than a psychic?
If you’re a fan of the show you will love this book, if you’re a fan of dark horror books this is one for you.

Overall it’s a solid book so this gets 4 stars from me.

Hey, I'm Shane.
Been into comics since I was about 5. Loved watching Wonder Woman and superboy in the 80's.
I Started reading seriously about 10 years ago. Began to collect a few comic series, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Teen Titans, Justice League of America and Superman Batman all pre flashpoint. Being honest that was my favourite run.
