REVIEW: Straightjacket #1

Straightjacket #1
Written by El Torres
Art by Guillermo Sanna
Lettering by Malaka Studio

Let’s judge this book by its cover… Amazingly twisted cover. Eye catching in black and white with blood red stains. The face looks terrifying. I absolutely adore this cover.

Spoiler free? Nope, not from me!

If you’re sitting comfortably we can begin… We open on a young girl with bloody hands and face, her name is Alexandra and she has just brutally butchered her twin brother Alexander ( their dad thought the names would be funny) we jump forward some years and she is in an asylum meeting her new Doctor. She likes this one because he’s normal, that and her brother tells her he’s good. The Doctor heads home and is followed by 3 creepy school girls. Alex is in her room talking to her brother when a nurse arrives with sleeping tablets for her, Alex sees the nurses true self as her brother takes the monsters head clean off. Back at the Doctors apartment the girls become shadowy monsters and sneak under his door. To be continued.

This book is very creepy, the patients all seem crazy nuts. One used to be a comedian until 13 people killed themselves while watching him one night sending him mad. The art is gorgeous with use of red used to perfection. With Halloween a few weeks away I’ve been looking for horror titles and this one hits the mark. I’m looking forward to issue 2.

If you like disturbingly good stories and creepy art this books for you.

This issue joins an elite few in my Hall Of Fives easily a 5 star book.

Hey, I'm Shane.
Been into comics since I was about 5. Loved watching Wonder Woman and superboy in the 80's.
I Started reading seriously about 10 years ago. Began to collect a few comic series, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Teen Titans, Justice League of America and Superman Batman all pre flashpoint. Being honest that was my favourite run.
