This book may seem at first glance to be quite ambitious. But when you look at the parts that make up the key elements you find that the ideas have their origins elsewhere, those being part Highlander and part Charmed.

This by no way detracts from the book. From the first page I was drawn into the story, with characters seeming to be one thing but clearly hiding something.  I was unsure about the heist element, alluded to in the blurb about the story, but this took a back seat as I moved through the pages.

Story and art do seem a little chaotic, which for me isn’t usually a good thing.  I am definitely a “right things in right place” kinda guy.  This may not have been helped by the fact the series is five issue in and this the first of the series I have read.

One of the highlights of the book is the colours, bringing each character to life and adding depth to backgrounds which, when used in the the historical context of the book, helps go some way to creating a lived in universe. The art and more so the  colours, reminded me of Buccellato’s work on his current Detective Comics run and with the love that book is getting, that is quite high praise.

Those who worried about Dark Horse Comics’ future since the  loss of the Star War franchise (me included), need not worry at all, if the quality of books like The Ladykiller and The Resurrectionists are anything to go by.

I am a long time comic book fan, being first introduced to Batman in the mid to late 70's. This led to a appreciation of classic artists like Neal Adams and Jim Aparo. Moving through the decades that followed, I have a working knowledge of a huge raft of characters with a fondness for old school characters like JSA and The Shadow

Currently reading a slew of Bat Books, enjoying a mini Marvel revival, and the host of The Definative Crusade and Outside the Panels whilst also appearing on No-Prize Podcast on the Undercover Capes Podcast Network
