“As I tossed fitfully between waking and dreaming, I gazed at the sea and could swear I something distant and dreadful, ripping through the tides and breathing fire into the night.”“ — Yi Soon Shin.

Not ALL heroes are make believe”¦”¦.

This graphic novel is based on the true story of  REAL LIFE Hero, Admiral Yi Soon Shin, a Korean naval commander who saved his people from Japanese invasion forces during the Imjin War (1592-1598). Much like the Nazi’s during World War II, the Japanese were known for having very little remorse for the innocent civilians of Korea. All that stood against them was one man who could not be defeated in battle on the seas. This is not your typical comic based on historical facts, it is very entertaining read where you hardly realize you“re getting a lesson in history. Onrie writes this with a passion and knowledge that pulls you into the book. The cast of characters within the book all bring something new and exciting to the story while never being over-played or becoming boring, the villains are vile and haters hate but this does not stop Yi Soon Shin the character development is handled expertly  with each character adding something important  to the story. Yi Soon Shin is shown as a very humble and intelligent leader that believed the impossible is possible!

THE BOTTOM LINE”¦”¦..

The pacing of the writing by Onrie Kompan is exceptional, the art by Giovannni Timpano is beautiful and blends together well to bring about a tale that is inspiring, captivating and above all fun to read, I could not put the book down and had to read it all in one session and loved it, I look forward to reading further adventures of Yi Soon Shin, I recommend this to all lovers of both history and comic books.

I would like to send out a thank you to Onrie Kompan and his team for allowing me the opportunity to review this book.  It has been an honor and pleasure.
