BOSTON UPRISING SIGN GABRIEL “SWIMMER” LEVY AND WALID “MOUFFIN” BASSAL

The Boston Uprising announced today the signings of American main support player Gabriel “Swimmer”“ Levy and Lebanese-Canadian flex tank player Walid “Mouffin”“ Bassal. Both players join the Uprising from the Uprising Academy team in Overwatch Contenders, with Mouffin on a two-way contract.

Swimmer, 18, has played three seasons of Overwatch Contenders with the Uprising Academy. Most recently, he helped the team to a 5-2 regular season record in the North America East region of Contenders 2019 Season 2, good for third place in the regular season standings and a playoff berth.

Swimmer“s path to pro began in North American Open Division 2018 Season 2 with Kyaaa Esports (previously Relapse: Spirit), where the team reached the quarterfinals in the playoffs. In Open Division 2018 Season 3, he played with The Dogmen ”“ Akita, placing second in the regular season and in the top eight in the playoffs. Afterward, Swimmer briefly moved to North American Contenders team Skyfoxes but did not play a match with the squad before joining Toronto Esports in October 2018. That Toronto Esports team won Season 5 of the BEAT Invitational before becoming the Uprising Academy in November 2018.

Swimmer“s signature heroes include Mercy, Lucio and Ana.

“Swimmer is a talented support player, and we think now is the right time to graduate him to the Uprising roster,”“ said Chris “HuK”“ Loranger, President of Gaming for the Uprising. “We“re big fans and hope to see big things from him in 2020.”“

Mouffin, 21, signed with the Uprising Academy near the end of Contenders 2019 Season 2 but has not yet played in a match with the team. His previous competitive experience includes a fourth-place finish in the North American Open Division 2018 Season 2 playoffs with Eminent and a sixth-place finish in the ensuing Contenders Trials season. Mouffin played one match as a substitute for Team Envy in the North America West region of Contenders 2019 Season 2 and cemented himself as a player to watch by qualifying for Team Canada“s 12-player roster for the 2019 World Cup.

Mouffin first garnered attention as a D.Va player and has since diversified his hero pool to include other tanks like Zarya and Roadhog.

“Mouffin is a flexible flex tank with proficiency on several characters,”“ HuK said. “While he hasn“t played in an official match with the Uprising or the Academy team yet, we“re excited to work with him and continue to develop his talent.”“

As a two-way player, Mouffin will count toward the Uprising“s 12-player roster limit. He will also count toward the Uprising Academy“s eight-player roster limit for weeks in which the Academy team designates him as eligible to compete. If Mouffin plays in any OWL match, he will be ineligible to compete in Contenders matches for the following week. If he plays in more than two OWL matches in any 30-day period, he will lose his Contenders eligibility for 60 days. That period of ineligibility will begin or reset every time he appears in his third OWL match within a 30-day period. If Mouffin competes in more than 50% of the Uprising“s maps in 2020, he will be ineligible to compete in Contenders during the OWL offseason.

The Uprising look ahead to the 2020 OWL season, as they will return to Boston and host two homestand weekends on April 25-26 and June 27-28.
