FANDANGO SURVEYS MORE THAN 1,000 MOVIE FANS ON OSCARS’ BIGGEST SNUBS (LED BY “WONDER WOMAN”), HAPPIEST SURPRISES (LED BY “LOGAN”)

In the first five hours since the Academy Award nominations announcement, more than 1,000 moviegoers weighed in on Fandango on Oscars’ biggest snubs and surprises.

According to the online survey, 39% of moviegoers point to the virtual shutout of “Wonder Woman” in all Oscar categories as the Academy’s biggest snub.  The majority (38%) of fans claim the “Logan” screenplay nod was Oscar’s happiest surprise, while 20% picked Daniel Kaluuya’s “Get Out” nomination. The top five vote-getters for Oscars’ top snubs and surprises can be found below.

Biggest Oscar Nomination Snubs, According to Moviegoers:

  1. “Wonder Woman” shut out in all categories (39%)

  2. James Franco (“The Disaster Artist”), Best Actor (10%)

  3. Tom Hanks (“The Post”), Best Actor (9%)

  4. Jessica Chastain (“Molly’s Game”), Best Actress (7%)

  5. Martin McDonagh (“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”), Best Director (6%)

Happiest Oscar Nomination Surprises, According to Moviegoers:

  1. “Logan” for Best Adapted Screenplay (38%)

  2. Daniel Kaluuya (“Get Out”), Best Actor (20%)

  3. Denzel Washington (“Roman J. Israel, Esq.”), Best Actor (16%)

  4. Christopher Plummer (“All the Money in the World”), Best Supporting Actor (13%)

  5. Lesley Manville (“Phantom Thread”), Best Supporting Actress (8%)

“Moviegoers are shocked that ‘Wonder Woman’ was unable to land a single Oscar nomination, considering its huge box office success and positive impact on pop culture,” says Fandango Managing Editor Erik Davis. “At the same time, the ‘Logan’ nod delighted genre fans as the first superhero film to be nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, while Daniel Kaluuya’s rare horror movie lead nomination was a pleasant surprise.  Christopher Plummer also stunned many by landing an Oscar nomination for a role he took in ‘All the Money in the World’ at the last minute and shot in only 10 days.”

According to a recent Fandango survey, 57% of fans claim that when a film wins an Oscar nomination, they are even more interested in seeing it.
