Siblings Derek and Leah don’t really have a plan. All they know is that video games are awesome and that you should always look out for your neighbor. When giant mutant insects start terrorizing the neighborhood, they’ll have to get off the couch and do something about it.
Luckily, everything they need just fell out of the sky: the MechaTon glove, a machine that converts anything it punches into a real life Gundam, whether it’s a hotdog stand or the entire planet. They aren’t the only ones who want to take advantage of this power, though; if they want to save their neighborhood, they’ll have to battle corporations, the military, and actual space fascists. Here’s hoping they look cool doing it.
“What really excited me about MechaTon, apart from its interesting characters, insane potential of action scenes and visuals, and thematic relevance, was how optimistic it seemed,” said Wells Thompson. “Much of what I’ve written feels heavy, whether its horror stories or big, emotional dramas, but this story struck me as uniquely fun and lighthearted. It’s easy to get bogged down with the feeling that the world is terrible and your job sucks and that you don’t have any power to stop it.”
“MechaTon started with, appropriately enough, a punch,” said writer Dalton Shannon. “Now, here we are, eight years later and the sting of that first punch isn’t quite so harsh. There’s a whole new world of excitement just around the corner, and no amount of setbacks can stop us this time. Trust me, you’re gonna dig it!”
“Once the guys contacted me for the project, I thought it was a really fun concept. I also saw a bit of an opportunity to play around with my style a bit, which is always welcome,” said Fernando Pinto. “The guys came up with a really cool story, and I feel really lucky to have been invited to be a part of it. I mean, it’s robots fighting bugs! As a comic artist, that’s hard to beat.”
