MOVIE REVIEW: Pitch Perfect 3

Above average sequel to Pitch Perfect.Â The Bellas have all gone their separate ways and started their adult life jobs, while a new generation of the group are starting to make the rounds, but with no ones career going to plan they long for the olden days.Â When one of the girls suggests going on the US Army tour of the Bases they all jump at the chance.Â During their travels things don’t work out as planned and they are followed by the two commentators who are making a documentary.Â They also have to compete to open for a big act.

I’ll be honest with you here and now, because there is only two of us, I actually enjoy these movies.Â You don’t have to over think the story, you can just put one on, have good music, and escape the reality of life for the running time.Â You don’t have to overthink a silly thing like plot, or wonder how much longer Rebel Wilson is going to pretend to be in her 20’s, I think we’re into her third decade of that facade, you just enjoy the show.

Here with all their adult non singing careers not taking shape as they had hoped the girls go on the famous USO shows in Spain, Italy, and France.Â It’s a welcome break for some and for others it’s a last hurrah.Â Anna Kendrick leads the cast as usual and we all wonder why she hasn’t broken huge around the world.Â She has this amazing talent and the voice, but her awkward girl act should be having us line up for every film that she is in.Â She’s far better than any of the films that I’ve seen here in this year.Â Fingers crossed that something breaks for her soon.Â Rebel Wilson is Rebel Wilson and you know exactly what you’re going to get with her.Â This time John Lithgow joins the capers playing Wilson’s Dad.Â He steals every scene that he is in and offers a great new vision to the series.Â Hopefully though Pitch Perfect 3 is the last of that series, and I don’t say that with a negative slant, I just want to enjoy the three films before they go all Police Academy with it.

What I truly enjoyed this time is that they don’t just concentrate on the music, it’s a great soundtrack don’t get me wrong, but they wanted to bring something more to the table.Â The writers seem to have looked at the screwball comedies of Abbot and Costello, The Marx Brothers, Laurel and Hardy, with a sprinkling of the Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis comedies to boot.Â They have taken the silliness from these inspirations and said lets just throw everything at the film.Â I could go into the camera work and the editing, some of which is a little too annoying for my liking, but to be honest when you are enjoying the silliness of the film, why does that stuff matter.

If you have liked the previous two films there is nothing that I can say to keep you away from the final part in this trilogy.Â It’s stupid fun and that is something that we need in the cinema, it can’t all be lightsabers, multiple billboards, and games that bring you into the their worlds.Â I know that the girls of my family will want to see this over their Christmas breaks from school and I would happily attend the screenings with them.Â They are far from great movies but the Pitch Perfect series is pitched perfectly at their audience.
