Review: Amazing Spider-Man #81

Story Thus far:

Peter Parker, for a while had been in a coma since he suffered the effects from Amazing Spider-Man #75, Peter Parker teamed up with Ben Reilly (Amazing Spider-Man #149)  to take on the U-Foes (Incredible Hulk #254).  In the meantime, Ben Reilly had been stepping filling in for him.  But he’s not alone. He was hired by the Beyond Corporation (Nextwave #1) to be its Spider-Man, the trademark of which it bought from the now defunct Parker Industries. Now the Beyond Corporation relies on Ben Reilly to fulfill his assigned missions and protect it trademark.

In the current issue, it slightly touches on the fact that Miles Morales is being sued by the Beyond Corporation, and Ben Reilly is expected to enforce it. However, the crisis that leads them to the same location needs the two of them so, they put their differences aside.

Script:

Disappointing. The cover sold a much bigger story instead the reader will be treated to a fight against a Dollar General Swamp Thing.  The Dialogue is awkward.  Especially for Miles. It screams that it was written by a forty-year-old who grew up during the 90’s

Art:

The art by  Carlos Gomez, Color, Bryan Valenza, lettering by Joe Caramagna.  The art is the saving grace of this book.  Plenty of action against the villain were tight. Only Blip was the fight between Miles and Ben, I’m not sure what happened there.

Covers:

The Amazing Spider-man #81  has 4  covers: CVR A by  Arthur Adams; CVR B by Artist Deyn; and Cover C   Mahmud Asrar DEVILS REIGN VILLAIN ; My current favorite being cover C, I just loathe the fact that it barely covers what happens in the guts.
