Among this week’s releases from IDW you will find Angry Birds #2. If you haven’t already figured it out, this comic series is based on the world made popular by the Angry Birds mobile game that took the world by storm a few years back. So far, the tie in comic has enlisted a rotating cast of creators to present 2-3 short stories per issue, rotating around the Angry birds and their Pig nemeses.

This installment features two stories. The first short story, written by Kari Korhonen with Art by Cèsar Ferioli is titled “The Joke”. The story revolves around the exploding black bird who is told a pig joke prior to launch. When landing in the pig fortress, he is unable to explode because he is not angry due to the joke he was told. The bird laughs his way all the way home, and the pigs are not amused. They launch a plan to exact revenge on the disrespectful angry birds.

The second short story, written by Paul Tobin with Art by Paco Rodriques is titled “Masterpig Theatre Presents: 20,000 Eggs Under the Sea”. This short story tells the tale of a group of angry birds sent to investigate a mysterious sea monster that had been sinking the bird’s cargo ships to the bottom of the ocean. Once they encounter the monster, they find everything is not as it seemed, and an underwater adventure ensues.

This book is a very quick and easy read. both short stories are simple and easy to understand. While I don’t think this title will find a strong audience with adults, I do think anyone young children should give this book a look. If your kids are a fan of the mobile game, than they will love this book. It’s all ages friendly, and will also serve as a good introduction to comics.

FINAL VERDICT: While you’re putting together your future pull lists, add this one to the list for your kid. Now you guys can sit on the couch and read comics together!!!
