Review: Basilisk #6

What would happen if mortals with the power of gods  existed in the real world? What would drive a woman to risk her life in order to kill them?

Story Thus far:

Basilisk #4-5,  Hannah used Reagan to bait the Chimera into coming to her, whereby she was able to confront the Chimera in order to  obtain justice for her dead Husband and child.  She was able to kill the main leader, and their worshippers but not before he was able to pass off a mysterious message to Regan and his 2nd in command, Vanessa.  In the absence of Manny, the Chimerian the leader of the worshippers has gathered what’s left of the cult, claiming to be the voice.

In the current  issue of Basilisk #6, the Chimera now invigorated Manny’s last message continue to peruse the Earth in search of more humans to sacrifice.    Hannah, who barely escaped alive her encounter with them, continues her attempt to kill off the rest of the Chimera.  Also, a final reveal on why Hannah is the only survivor, and why her drive to kill the Chimera is so strong.

Art:

Continues to be sensational work.  In fact, this book continues to excel on panels where there is no talking, and where the creative team lets the art speak for itself.  Best situational artwork, that I have seen in a long time.  The art team for Basilisk #3 consist of: Jonas Scharf colored by Alex Guimaraes; Ed Dukeshire, letterer.  In fact, the style reminds me of some of the pre-code horror stuff.  I just wish they would use some more for the covers, because right now the general community doesn’t understand what Basilisk is about.

Script:

It seems a bit repetitive from the last issue.  Though I will concede that the big secret makes it the  issue that Basilisk  readers have been waiting for.  The buildup was great and seemed a little off  the bag reveal may have been better off in the last issue.  I still believe that they would be a great movie script and feel dismayed that it really didn’t get enough attention in 2021.

Speculation:

BASILISK #1  had 6 covers: but it continues to an example of retailers beware.  9.8 for the 1:50 are below ration, but the unlockable one per store raw  CVR E Unlockable by Jonas Scharf is going for $25.

3 stars out of 5.  Still one of the best books out.

Covers:

BASILISK #6 will have three covers: CVR A Jonas Scharf; CVR B Rebelka; CVR C 25 COPY INCV Rebelka.
