Review: BATMANS GRAVE #4 (OF 12)

“Oh, would you just shut up!” – Batman

Synopsis:

This issue opens with Bruce Wayne donning the iconic Batman costume then going on patrol in the Batmobile throughout the city of Gotham. Our hero is discussing tonight’s mission with the ever-reliable butler Alfred Pennyworth. This month’s antagonist has apparently designed a new lethal type of drug. DON’T MESS WITH THE BATMAN.

The Creative Team:

Warren Ellis has constructed an action-packed issue with very little dialog. Fans will be delighted to see the Dark Knight doing what he does best, kicking ass with very little exposition, only what we need to know about the villain. Dr. Hellfern, the antagonist, tries to gas the Caped Crusader with his drug, but the Batman is ready for this feeble attack. I think Batman fans will love this issue, Bruce Wayne’s detective skills are on display but this doesn’t get in the way of the action, it’s a fun issue. Great stuff includes Batman’s traditional no-nonsense response to the evildoers and his confrontation with Dr. Hellfern.

Bryan Hitch keeps the story moving along with some incredible fight scenes which alone is worth the cover price. Since there is very little dialog in this issue, it’s up to Hitch to keep the pages flowing and he does a majestic job of illustrating the dark and gloomy tale of a drug maker who bit off a little bit more than he can chew. Highlights include the splash of Batman standing over his conquered foes. Also the Dark Knight’s first encounter with Hellfern.

In Conclusion:

A fast-paced delightful chapter in this maxiseries. Batman’s best tropes are condensed into an action-packed tale of street justice. Just enough exposition to whet our appetite as the Bats kicks some major bad guy but! The entire room, as usual, is no match for this vengeful vigilante. A must-have for any Batman fan. 2 (8.3)
