Review: Catwoman #41

Story Thus far:

In Catwoman, Selina had been investigating the illicit gains running out of Alleytown, which leads her back to the Crime Families of Gotham .Normally this would be a simple smash-em up and go home story, but Tini Howard has put in a little more.

1st the Crime bosses are not happy that Catwoman crashed the party.  Second they send a hitman to kill one of her friends. To get back at one of the main bosses Selina focuses her attention on Tomaso’s son Dario. But even that is complicated because Dario is being betrayed by the very people he loves.  As a result of this betrayal and in recognition that he may be killed because of his sexual identity he decides to help Catwoman.

 Art:

Eye popping panels.  This is just another example where I wish some of the interior could have been used for the covers.  Nico Leon continues to turn in great work. The interior s really pops because of the work by Jordan Bellaire.  The art team for Catwoman #41 consist of: Nico Klein; Colors Jordan Bellaire; lettering by Tom Napolitano.

 Script:

Tini Howard has f*cking done it. Tini Howard in the last 3 issues has expertly displayed how  a piece of  an individual’s identity can complicate a whole system amongst the human terrain.    Finally,  DC comics has a winner after for so long has been trying to unlock in its push for inclusivity.  We now have a LGBTQ related story, that’s not just about identity diversity!

It’s amazing how good the layout was, and you can see the potential future of DC Comics if continues to try to stay grounded in reality.  The only nit-pick I have is the revealing of sources, which in all likely leads to the death of her friend.

Speculation:

Catwoman #41 didn’t have any straight forward speculation.  That could change down the line depending on the identities of the three mysterious Hisagawa figures. The emergence of the Valmont (Catwoman #39), and Onyx Adams (Detective Comics #546) should stay on speculators radar.

Covers:

Catwoman Vol 5 #41: will have 5 covers: CVR A  Jeff Dekal;  CVR B Variant Tula Lotay Card Stock; Jenny Frison the Batman Card Stock; CVR DDani International Womens Day Card Stock; CVR E 1:25 Sozomaika.
