REVIEW: DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE WHITE FOX #1

Story Thus far:

In Civil War II: Ami Hano, a paranormal Korean shapeshifting nine-tailed fox was revealed to be last of a race of demons recognized for hunting by way of seducing men to be able to tear out their hearts and eat them. . Her grandmother become a Kumiho who fell in love with the person that helped her discover her humanity.
Ami was raised by her mom (also a Kumiho), who taught her the way to hunt and nearly develop into a Kumiho, advising her to cover her true form.
In the current issue Ami Han Haunted by her past travels with Sword Master to her old village to investigate the reports of another Kumiho Demon. The reader gets an interesting take on White Fox’s origin , but it was only a matter of time before the demon appeared, claiming to be Chiyou, the God of War. Using the fears of the 2, White Fox loses the Sword Master and the Divine Sword of Fu XI.

Script:

Very interesting concept using some very underutilized characters in my opinion conceptually this is a battle between their past and history instead of just pitting them against some random idealistic villain.
The only thing I question is the need to connect it to the death of Doctor Strange, I mean the fact that the antagonist is an Asian Mythological demon should stand on its own.
Up to this point the dialogue for the series has been on point, though in this issue it was a little bit more straight forward and no fluff.

Art:

Kudos goes to the creative art team. The art by John Timm, and colors by HI-FI. They could have easily just bit off what all the cool kids are doing now and implemented some manga style, but they went straight forward with it / East to read great visuals. Much respect.

Covers:

DEATH OF DOCTOR STRANGE WHITE FOX #1 has 3 covers: CVR A by R1c0; CVR B by Peach Momoko; and Cover C Inhyuk Lee. The peach Momoko is cute, but it just won’t overtake the White Fox Inhyuk Lee cover from 2019.

Speculation:

Tough to say because of the demon in this issue hasn’t named itself definitively. In the meantime, this issue did make White fox even more intriguing, so I’m going in on the 1st appearance Ami Han: Contest of Champions #1 (October, 2015). You may have missed out if you don’t have the 1st appearance off Tae-won, already Taskmaster (Vol. 3) #3 1:25 Shane Davis (February, 2021), which also happens to be the 1st appearance of Tiger Division. Also, what should be on the radar is the
New Agents of Atlas 1:50 Zircher variant.

3/5 out of 5 stars
