Review: Fear Case #4
Bottom Line Up Front: If you like the twilight zone, and you like movies with a message, you’ll enjoy Fear Case. It has some nutty parts which seemed silly quite dramatic, but in the end I think it makes a good deal of sense.
Story Thus Far:
Two Secret Service Agents had a year to follow up and solve case that no one has been able to solve in decades. Now, their time is up before they must pass it to a new trainee. The case is not just a criminal case. It is a literal case. That case always tends to have suspicious events happening in its wake. In previous issues it was revealed the owners believed they had three days to pass the box and its bad juju, on to someone they hated. If they, did not, it would automatically go to someone they loved.
Dialogue:
There isn’t much. Most of the dialogue balloons was monologue exposition that did a pretty bang job of closing out the narrative.
Art:
Jaunting. Art by Tyler and Hilary Jenkins. There were quite a few panels that I was not expecting to be so graphic. The main point though is that it demonstrated perfectly how horrible the case is. Also some of the Easter Eggs were great and definitely helped close out the story.
Final Thoughts:
I really enjoyed Fear Case. If you are into super-fast paced while also making you think deeply on the decisions, we make then definitely read this. At any rate it is very entertaining. This issue kept me involved and intrigued, and for that I am grateful. My only gripe is the connection to huge world events, which is unnecessary especially so soon. I am beginning to wonder whether, in some situations, absurdity might not be a strength.
Note to Comic Speculators:
It gives of the vibes of “Button, Button” and the Box. So, this would be perfect for a tv series if they can keep up the energy in later issues. Darkhorse Comics does have a good history of adapting properties but nothing quite as dark as this script.
