REVIEW: Green Hornet #5

From the opening pages we see our titular character and his faithful partner in procession of a cheerful vibrant baby, the following page we see an array of army soldiers, tanks and helicopters led by a very gruff soldier who looks like he’s out for blood.

The next question you might ask, all this for a baby? Sounds like Mac and Me, ET and a bit of Starman!? If you’ve seen those films you’d understand where I’m going here, the baby is an alien from another world and of course the military will use the baby for medical research (air quotes). To find find out what happens after, please head down to your local comic store and pick this up.

For those of you born after 1990, I apologise for the Mac and Me film reference as the film was terrible, I won’t apologise for the ET and Starman film reference as those films are great, you should watch them!

Overall, this was a really enjoyable read. It wasn’t complicated and it was fun from the very beginning.. Scott Lobdell (better known for his work in the Big 2, in particular Uncanny X-Men, Teen Titans and The Flash) has done an outstanding job with the Green Hornet, he carried a simple story and made it more compelling in particular the dialogue. I must say the art of Marques and Bone really made the book even more enjoyable, their style is clean and eye-catching with a bit of Darwyn Cooke and Mike Allred. It really gives us that Pulp feel and if Scotty gives us humour, well we know Marques and Bone will deliver! The fact the book isn’t in color, well who cares – really!

For fans of the Van Williams and the Dragon, Bruce Lee’s adaptation from the 1960s (just like me) and fans of the Green Hornet overall – you won’t be disappointed. And if you’re looking for something different and fun.. well this is for you.

Do ya’self a favor and check it out!
