REVIEW: He-Man: The Eternity War #15

G’Day Crusaders,

This is Dodgy86 in the mix bringing you He-Man: The Eternity War # 15 by Dan Abnett with art by Pop Mhan and Mark Roberts. Cover art by Szymon Kudranski.

This issue is titled ‘Facing the Future’, the story begins with Prince Adam awaking from his dream which makes him feel quite unsettled.. this is an unusual dream for the young heir as it is based on an unknown future that his alter-ego He-Man leads his Masters into a battle with an unforseen conclusion. Could this mean the end of the most powerful man in the universe and his allies?

Adam goes looking for pieces of a complicated puzzle, he tries to find closure within the company of his friends and allies. His curiosity grows because he is immensely eager to find the purpose of this dream and what it means in the future.

This is a different take on the He-Man universe I’m used to, I am a traditional MOTU fan as a child however I did like the mood of the story as well as modifications of the costumes. The relationship involving Prince Adam and Teela which was a pleasant surprise, I felt good inside. What pleased me was giving voice to Stratos, who in the show was a voiceless and character-less character and making him into Adam’s wise and aged mentor was a great choice by Abnett. Abnett has done a solid job of creating a new universe in the MOTU world and the art by Mhan and Roberts assist Abnett’s vision and provide a new look to a classic characters without losing their identity. This is a lot darker than the Filmation version.

For fans of the MOTU universe who have picked this up, you may have to read a few issues beforehand to be accustomed to the new look of familiar characters. Put that aside and it is a decentread, it ends with a mysterious figure and you need to read to find out who this is… Do ya’self a favor and check it out!
