Don’t judge a book by its cover, or do, your choice…
The cover is very nice. Thanos walking with a family through a totally destroyed city. The detail in the destruction is amazing.

A long, long time ago in the last issue…
Giant alien bugs are destroying everything, a family escapes and joins up with their mum who happens to be a Nova. The family are guarding an infinity gem. Thanos himself has the time gem and has tried to kill the family time and time again (pardon the pun) each time being defeated and turning back time to try again. This issue he’s trying a new approach.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming…
We open on Drax the destroyer standing over the body of Thanos. It’s not really him and Drax knows this so heads out to find the real one.
Thanos has traveled back in time to before the family knows of him so he can “befriend” them. Giving them food and saving them from giant bugs he gains a modicum of trust as the mother shows and Thanos hands over the time gem and the gauntlet to the Nova and they set out to find the rest.
Starlord and Gamora have stollen the mind gem from the Nova corps. Having given Nova gear to her whole family and Thanos the family attack in hopes of retrieving the gem. Gamora and Starlord hand over he gem and agree to help find the others to save the planet. They locate another gem in a dead Forrest inside an old tree. The tree speaks, repeating words like eyes, grew and root before announcing himself as ‘I am Groot’ he give them the gem as th Nove places it on the gauntlet and Thanos grows impatient. Once the gauntlet is complete he will kill them all and take it for himself. To be continued.
The whole issue is monologued by Thanos and his tone of disgust at having to be nice is brilliant. His lack of any kind of humanity is clearly shown in simple looks. His plan is genius, gain their trust get them to gather the gems and simply take them. I really liked it. The art inside is very nice, it’s makes it a pleasure to read.

It’s all fun and games until someone loses an eye…
Opens on very dead Thanos body. Other then that just a few giant bugs get it this issue.

The Good, The Bad and The Meh…
The good – pretty much the whole thing. Thanos is great, the art is top notch.
The bad – not a fan of how perfectly the family use their new Nova tech. Small gripe.
The meh – the whole Drax thing didn’t really add anything to story. Maybe it will next issue.

Without thinking this easily a 4.6 star book.

Been into comics since I was about 5. Loved watching Wonder Woman and superboy in the 80's.
I Started reading seriously about 10 years ago. Began to collect a few comic series, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Teen Titans, Justice League of America and Superman Batman all pre flashpoint. Being honest that was my favourite run.
