Review: Infinity Wars #3

Synopsis:

This issue opens with Loki at the mercy of Requiem. Loki is doing what he does best as he plays a game of wits with his captor and tries to convince her that “Reality” is not real and this scenario is being played out elsewhere. You know the old adage: “Power corrupts and absolute power…makes Gamora a dull girl,” or something like that. Our former Guardian of the Galaxy turned intergalactic outlaw is clearly overwhelmed by the power she’s been given.

The Creative Team:

Gerry Dugan pulls out all the stops as he shows us when worlds collide and the very fabric of the universe is torn asunder and history is rewritten while meshing with a fantastic journey into time and space itself. Our heroes are amalgamated into strange versions of themselves as Loki desperately tries to get Gamora, Requiem, to see the error of her ways. Like father like daughter as she finds herself doing the very same thing she once fought against him for doing. A great trip into a mind corrupted by the avatar she has become. Great stuff includes Loki’s attempts at reasoning with a being who has gone insane with power and Requiem’s response to his arguments.

Mike Deodato’s art is brilliant. The characters never looked more real. From the deepest darkest corner of the universe to the corner store, our heroes fit in and look like real people, not comic book drawings. This only adds to the intensity of the situation at hand. Highlights include the splash that reveals the relationship between Gamora and Requiem in the next universe and the amalgamation scene.

In Conclusion:

Not since the Dark Phoenix saga have we seen a being so totally corrupted by power that she can’t handle or control. The way this story unfolds we feel the total helplessness of the most powerful heroes the earth has to offer as their world is torn asunder and put back together in ways that they could not imagine. Is there a way to stop Requiem before it’s too late? Is there anyone on earth that might be able to stop this madness? Quick, we must contact…to be continued. **** (9.3 rating)
