Review: INVISIBLE WOMAN #4 (OF 5)

Synopsis:

This issue opens with a blinded Sue Richards. Blind due to surgery. She’s scared and doesn’t know if the people around her are still friends or enemies, she doesn’t know who to trust. Then we go back eight years to Odesa Ukraine. We witness and intriguing spy mission seemingly gone wrong where Sue has to rescue some operative. An intriguing open to this month’s issue.

The Creative Team:

Mark Waid delivers a solid story here. Sue is kept blind by this issue’s antagonist. She can get her sight back as soon as she gives her captor what she wants. Of course, Sue is no damsel in distress and proves herself competent even without the benefit of her eyesight. I am enjoying where this story is going and Mark Waid’s Invisible Woman is a worthy adversary as well as being underrated. But in the end, the antagonists still have the upper hand as Sue learns that not everyone, even in her company of friends can be trusted. It’s a conflict of ideologies as two people learn about each other and don’t always like what they see. I love how Sue’s inherent goodness makes her strive to be an even better person. Great stuff includes the surprise arrival of a mystery agent also Sue’s indomitable spirit of defiance when faced with situations that challenge her loyalty.

Mattia De Iules delivers a brutal authenticity with her detailed work here. It’s stunning visuals that draw us into this tale of intrigue. I love a good spy thriller and this one delivers on all ends. Especially with the way the characters are represented. Highlights include the rescue of Aiden eight years earlier and the splash with the arrival of the C.I.A.

In Conclusion:

The story that’s unraveling here is one of faith. Losing one’s faith in the face of adversity and being betrayed by those you trust. Susan Richards proves that she can solve mysteries competently without the aid of her teammates. But the conclusion of this issue makes her seem helpless with the fate of those that she feels compelled to protect. Can she regain that faith? she could use her teammate’s skills here, given that those she feels she must protect are miles away, will she be able to..to be continued.
