Review: Kingsman the Red Diamond # 4
Synopsis:
This issue opens in Peckham, London. Johnny is doing a little self promotion for his grocery store, much to Sharon’s chagrin. Then we cut to The hundred dragon’s lift in China. A dangerous accident has happened on an elevator, but was it an accident? Our heroes had to employ gliders to save themselves. But what of the rest of the people on board? It may not go so well for them. A lot of other twists and turns like we’ve come to expect from this title, all serving to flesh out the story and bring our heroes to the forefront of the action. The Creative Team:
Rob Williams always creates complicated scenarios which seemingly have nothing to do with the story that’s being told until it’s revealed later on that it was integral to that issues plot. I love how this title keeps you guessing on every page and the unpredictability of the writing. Even the weaker stories are always a treat because of the action and faced paced plotting. He pits Eggsy with another agent and they wind up in a fierce fight before enjoying each other’s company. All hell breaks out after that in several cities around the globe. I love how Williams stories involve multiple locations, creating a seemingly impossible situation to deal with. His stories are rich with texture and combine several sub-plots which are intertwined. It’s great stuff.
Simon Fraser has a manic style that works well with this story. How he rendered the elevator accident is an incredible bit of artistry as we see the helplessness of the passengers on board. The way he twists the panels brings a greater sense of urgency to the proceedings. the passion between Kwaito and Eggsy is another highlight to this issue and Fraser draws it perfectly. I really enjoyed this issue a lot.
In Conclusion:
This is yet another topsy turvey mission that the Kingsmen find themselves embroiled in and the stakes once again are high. The riots throughout the world are escalating and threaten the lives of people that Eggsy cares about a lot, The feeling of helplessness grows on each page throughout the story. as it escalates we see that the offices of the Kingsmen are also in jeopardy as our heroes attempt to contain the situation…to be continued. *** (7.8 rating)
