REVIEW: Lucky Devil #4

Story Thus far:

Lucky Devil #3 picks up with Stanley’s partnership with the Church of Lucifer. He talks to a huge crowd and summons a demon in front of them to prove his power. He then gives a simple message. attacked by a horde of demon. At the last moment, Stanley uses his power to drive the creatures away. Regrouping, he introduces his closest allies to Zed for the first time and they come up with a plan. Go to hell and strike a bargain with Satan himself.
In the current issue of Lucky Devil #4 Stanley and friends resolve to travel to hell to make a deal with the devil. They find a transporter that can get them there, but the route is littered with demons trying to hurt her. Once they get to the “portal to hell”, which of course isn’t what you think it is they find the deal maker.

Art:

Fran Galan as the artist did a really good job of establishing a unique look for the characters and look of the comic, but the orangey palette felt overdone. Furthermore, there were some wild and interesting interior panels, but the Cover art is rather mundane and is sure to make this issue overlooked.

Script:
Cullen Bunn has done it again. Showing off the range to write a good chase seen, mixed with comedy.
Most importantly by the end of the story I felt like the most important part of the story was just beginning. The center of gravity is the comedic dialogue which entertaining, but then the transition to tet-a- tet gets a little sticky, but not because it sucks . The word bubbles are all over the place.

Speculation:

It is an implicit rule to not bet against any Cullen Bun Project being adapted to film. It is a safe bet that Hollywood will take the same project and make it unwatchable. So far, we had to live through the atrocious Empty Man film , that was nothing like the comic book.  The NBCUniversal-owned cable-focused studio has signed Dark Horse Entertainment to a multiple-year overall deal that will see the comics publisher produce scripted programming from their extensive library as well as develop new properties.  Don’t forget that BOOM! and Netflix have already been working on a feature film adaptation of The Unsound, the 2017 horror book from Cullen Bunn and Jack Cole. With that in Mind this issue as the 1st appearance of the demon that makes the deals and issue #1 might not be a bad pickup.

3 stars out of 5.
