In the ongoing Outlawed, story-line all teenage superheroes have had their activities curbed by the government after they have been criminalized. So, far the story-line is can be seen throughout Marvel’s teen hero books, including Iron Heart 2020, Miles Morales: Spider-Man, Magnificent Ms. Marvel, the Champions , New Warriors and Power Pack miniseries.

In the current issue of MILES MORALES: SPIDER-MAN #17, rather than just dive into the Outlaw story-line, Saladin Ahmed presents Miles Morale’s live from a three pronged perspective: His activism and role as a mentor in the community, his struggles against the government who are actively, trying to keep him from improving his community, His family that supports him but recognizes his dangerous lifestyle.

I can’t tell whether Ahmed just stumbles onto how intelligent this issue was, or whether he actually meant it. Here is why, I am of the philosophy that the best way to change a community, or system is from within. So the best way these “heroes can change their communities at the moment is by joining the Police. But…in N.Y the minimum age of appointment is 21 years old. Also, You must have earned 60 college credits with a minimum 2.0 GPA from an accredited institution or 2 years of active military. To add to that C.R.A.D.L.E is actively enacting aggressive policing measures in order to charge them with a felony, which would disqualify them from future federal employment.

The touch of adding the panels with his family just goes to show, what he is fighting for, and what he stands to lose as well. Let us not forget the opening bullying PSA, with Kenneth Kingston (1st appearance) I just hope that this won’t be the last we see of him.

4.5 stars out of 5. This is the best books so far connected to the Outlawed story-line. It had an agenda stuck to it, and then ended on a twist that will have me coming back. I do question, that If he is masked how did they know that Miles is Underage? But it doesn’t take away from the story

MILES MORALES: SPIDER-MAN #17 will have two covers: Cover A by Javier Garron; and then the MARVEL ZOMBIES VARIANT drawn by Nick Bradshaw.
