Review: Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #31

Synopsis:

This issue opens with Moon Girl trying to convince her mother that she’s late getting home thanks to her and our Crimson Curmudgeon engaging in battle with Deadpool. But mom isn’t buying it and grounds our hero anyway, then we’re treated to a lecture about how nicotine messes bees up to the point where they can’t even find their way home. It’s all set up to bring us an anti-smoking PSA.

The Creative Team:

Montclare and Reader are concerned with the choices that young people make and attempt to steer those who are faced with the decision to smoke or not to smoke in the right direction. The facts are laid out for all to see. Moon Girl does seem to have enough common sense to stay away from tobacco, but what happens when the cigarette smoking hits home and someone she would never suspect as a smoker is caught with a cancer stick? But there is a reason why smoking has increased in her neighborhood and it’s up to Moon Girl to crack the case!

Ray Anthony Height does justice to this story with his slightly comedic style. His rendering of the super villain in this tale is a treat. The characters are believable when placed in the compromised positions of doing things we wouldn’t expect them to do. Highlights include the revelation of the villain in question and Moon Girl as she takes flight to pursue the antagonist.

In Conclusion:

As with all well done antagonists we can see the motivation behind this ones actions. His kind has been hunted for centuries and he’s trying to get a little pay back for the wrongs he sees as being done to the creatures that he can relate to. One of the ways he sees fit to seek revenge is to increase the nicotine addiction among humans. For nicotine has been wreaking havoc on his kind for centuries. Devil Dinosaur is more subdued in this issue than normal, but when he does come to life…Read on true believer! ’nuff said. *** (8.2 rating)
