REVIEW: Old Man Logan #37

Synopsis:

As the mutant ages, his healing factor is beginning to wane. After a fight with Ninjas that belong to the Hand, he almost died. He was rejuvenated by the drug regenics, which promotes healing but does strange things to the body. After returning to New York, he discovers that a new mayor has been elected, it’s the Kingpin, Wilson Fisk. Fisk hates Superhero’s and put a ban on them. Logan has a usb with information that could bring Fisk’s reign of terror to an end. But he’s been wounded in a shoot-out with police loyal to the Kingpin. This issue opens with a wounded Logan arriving at the flat of Sarah Dewey, seeking refuge and medical attention.

The Creative Team:

Ed Brisson brings the old man to the brink of death once again. He could possibly take down the Mayor of New York, who also happens to be the kingpin of crime. Politics and corruption, of course, go hand in hand. He has Logan seek help from a logical source, the one who wrote the biography of his honor. Since we’re in Daredevil territory, it’s only fitting that one of Daredevils chief villains shows up. A villain that young Logan could have taken out easy enough but the old man is having a struggle. I really enjoyed this fight scene and the issue as a whole. Great stuff includes Logan getting temporarily blinded in one eye, affecting his depth perception and allowing a lesser costumed creep temporarily gaining the upper hand. Plus Sarah realizing that she may have contributed to the Kingpin being elected mayor. All around great story telling.

Dalabor Talajic gives the old man character and renders him as the tough no-nonsense vigilante that he clearly is. Even in old age Logan is a force to be reckoned with and Talajic’s panels clearly represent that. they are an asset to Brissons words and bring the story to life in a vivid way. Highlights include The splash where the Daredevil villain reveals himself and the battle between the former X-Man and a Daredevil villain.

In Conclusion:

This ones got an intensity all its own, It’s pure cliff hanger material and action packed from page one! Our antagonist is racing to her hacker friend to see if the hacker can figure out the code. The hacker is informed that the last one who tried to hack into it was killed as the usb in question had some kind of radar that detects mutants, or just the powers that be in particular exhibits power over them. After a long fight, the antagonist shows up just as we’re about to find out…to be continued. ***1/2 (8.8 rating.)
