Review: Old Man Logan #43
Synopsis:
Logan and Bullseye fought each other to a stand still in their most recent encounter. Something is affecting Logan’s healing factor and he doesn’t really know why. Is it just old age? Logan is staring at a bottle of Regenex. It fixes the problems he’s been having with his healing factor but it’s only a short-term fix. And when it wears off, he’s in worse shape than when he took it. It’s his salvation and his death sentence all in one as, if he takes too much of it, it will kill him. And how was your day?
The Creative Team:
Ed Brisson brings us one of the most vulnerable incarnations of Logan that we’ve ever seen in the world of comic books. A Logan that is far past his prime but still has that animal determination that can help him solve any problem. The story opens with Sarah Dewey entering her house to some strange graffiti written on her floor, the walls, all through her house. She immediately thinks it’s her ex and calls him to scold him for this childish prank. But she learns the hard way and too late that it isn’t her ex that wrote the warnings after all. Bullseye returns in all his psychopathic glory and an old friend joins Logan on the hunt for one of the worlds most dangerous killers. Great stuff includes: Logan’s search of the crime scene and discovery of a clue to the killer and the revelation as to why Vendetta is obsessed with hunting Bullseye.
Juan Ferreyra brings a gritty style of realism to Brisson’s words. This is a graphic issue depicting some horrific scenes and the noir aspect is, as always is strong with this artist. No cartoony type of violence here. This issue is definitely not played for laughs and that’s good. Strong attention to detail breaths an intensity to these panels that make the whole experience more worth while. Highlights include the first appearance of Vendetta and the first appearance of Bullseye.
In Conclusion:
Bullseye is toying with the man formerly known of as Wolverine and his new sidekick Vendetta. This dynamic duo thinks they’re secretly tracking the insane Bullseye, only to realize that they’re being set up in a deadly game of tag. The final panel is truly shocking as Logan and Vendetta come upon…to be continued. *** (8.3 Rating.)
