REVIEW : Pablo the Gorilla #1

G“Day Crusaders,

This is Dodgy in the Mix brining you Pablo the Gorilla by Don Nguyen (creator, writer and artist) and Zlata Zukanovic (Editor-In-Chief). Proudly published by Zoo Magnet Inc.

After a very successful Kickstarter campaign https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/nguyeningit/pablothegorilla The very concept of a mechanical anthropomorphic gorilla brought in front of me I was intrigued, considering this: “It’s tough enough being a cyborg gorilla delivering pizzas, but it gets a lot worse when the government and a monster hunt you down”…. I was pretty much locked in.

From the second page we see Pablo deliver a pizza and within a panel we see the mechanical gorilla in action against a formidable adversary. And folks this is where the ride begins, we learn that considering what and who Pablo is.. its not easy being a pizza deliverer when there are obstacles impacting your customers from getting their pizzas in time.. or in good condition.

I really enjoyed the premise of the story even though it“s hinted throughout the book in a few pages, we learn a bit about Pablo“s past and also why he“s targeted. I really appreciate the fact that Pablo wants to fit in, he“s got a job and a purpose to deliver pizzas. I think Nguyen does a solid job of piecing these bits in with the action which makes it fun and without losing the heart of the story. The art is great and consistent, my only gripe is the colors, as each page has a theme generally consisting of two or three colors and/or different tones and shades. I feel that hiring a colorist could make a good book into a great one!

The conclusion also wants us to read more.

I give this 4 out of 5 stars because I want to see more. Do ya’self a favor and check this out!

Lastly: On the last few pages we are taking a history story of Don and Pablo which was loads of fun to read!
