Review: Save Yourself #1

Somebody has a bet out there… can you fit an Alien Invasion, in with dragons, Magic Princesses, Vampires , Lesbian make out sessions and Sharks in one story? Well Boone Leopard can.

Suppose you looked out the window one day and saw a bunch of giant monsters fighting against some super-powered being dressed like princesses, you would probably assume that they were super heroes and the monsters were bad. Well, Boone Leopard has some twist in Save Yourself #1 for its readers.

Story Recap:

Gigi (She) a Generation X, teen has an encounter with aliens from the Lovely Trio (also a Pop Music Sensation Group). The Trio are not the Super-heroes that the media claims them to be, and they eat people.

Art:

The artistic team consist of Kelly & Nichole Matthews. There are some interesting art choices. I can see the vision though. The atmospheric Background is kindred to Power Puff Girls, while parts of the costume designs and color schemes are reminiscent of Sailor moon. It’s obvious which demographic this is aimed at.

Dialogue

To understand how brilliant Save Yourself #1 is, the reader needs to understand the subtle Divergent demographically transition that is currently occurring across the nation. Trying to capture an underrepresented slice of current life, but to do it smoothly is another Quite Frankly Boones Leopard is putting on a clinic of demonstrating how a story can be diversely inclusive yet entertaining without shoving sociopolitical agendas down the readers throat.

Speculation Outlook:

Nobody will be talking about this book till it’s too late, the art style is deceivingly cute and infers comedy, when actually there’s some deep stuff happening here. Boom Studios has been on a tear lately, pumping out some good 1st issues that have been Week 1 easy 1^st to market flips. Lest we forget that Netflix has inked a first-look deal for live action and animated series with BOOM! Studios,
