Review: Scream: Curse of Carnage #3

Details of The Grendel Fable and its connection to the Klyntar are expounded upon.

In the last issue of Scream: Curse of Carnage #2, Andi Benton seemed to have found her mother, until the truth came out that it was not actually her mother, but a symbiote creature in disguise. These monsters are hunting Andi Benton, or more specifically her symbiote, to bring her to their underwater matriarch, a creature called “Mother”“, the true villain of this story.

In the current issue of Scream: Curse of Carnage #3, the story opens with Thor fighting Grendel in Dragur form (The implication being that Thor is Bewoulf). Scream gets the impression that there is something in New York Harbor in New York. So she and Andi dive in to the Harbor to investigate. There, they eventually meet up with “Mother” who delivers her proposition.

A big positive for me was that this felt like a really quick read. I am by no means an Andi Benton fan, but I will definitely be more interested If they can promise me that a sea symbiote is going to be a thing, and that this will be the book that will serve as an archive for the intricate details of the Klyntar.  The way things are going Clay Chapman has probably just provided us with just enough answers and twists to keep us interested but not affect any real changes. At least this was a quick easy real. Except for the Bewoulf bits.

In Venom Vol 4 #4, When the Klyntar invaded the land of the Geats, it was Thor the God of Thunder arrived to save the Geats while Bewoulf was absent, forming the basis for the legend of Beowulf slaying a dragon with his sword

Andi Benton (as Scream) (bonded to scream in Absolute Carnage: Scream #3 (December, 2019)
I did enjoy this stroll down through the memories of High School literature, even the fantastic artistic panel, didn’t help to illuminate for me what the writer was trying to say.
There were some gory panels that though technically sound, didn’t carry any emotionally weight. The transition panels between Brown and Mooneyham were definitely smooth and unrecognizable.

Scream Curse Of Carnage #3, will come with two covers: Cover A Regular was drawn by Nick Bradshaw; Cover B will be an incentive variant drawn by Dan Panosian Variant.

SCORE: 4.5 stars out of 5.

WRITER: CLAY McLEOD CHAPMAN
