Review: Scream: Curse of Carnage #5

“You are descended from parasites derived from lice.” – Big Mother

Synopsis:

Andi Benton was once bonded to the Mania symbiote, now she’s bonded to a different host: Scream! With no home family or friends to rely on, she’s been staying at the F.E.A.S.T. charity center. With Eddie Brock gone, Andi was the only symbiote available to protect the city from Big Mother, a symbiote found in the depths of the ocean. Andi was too weak to succeed against Mother’s powerful jaws, which swallowed her whole!

The Creative Team:

Clay McCloud Chapman begins this issue with Thor taking on the symbiote. Then we come to our protagonist in what has to be one of the freakiest comics ever written, she’s arguing with Mother from deep within her bowels! The battle continues as Scream reunites with Andi and assures her that she never left I am really enjoying how this tale is unfolding with its absurdist tendencies and the over the top storytelling that brings us a tale which can only be described as unique. Can Scream actually defeat Big Mother? I won’t tell here, but it sure is an awesome and fun ride in the attempt! Great stuff includes Scream’s rebonding with Andi and Big Mother’s speech concerning the legacy of her symbiote world.

Brown and Mooneyham have some great illustrations to compliment Chapman’s words. It’s a gorefest of a battle that will please any Carnage and/or Venom fan. We’ve got a new Symbiote to worry about citizens, and Big Mother is her name! Highlights include the splash of Andi reborn with Scream and Big Mother’s emergence from the ocean!

In Conclusion:

Oh, it’s on! Big Mother is enraged that Scream wasn’t destroyed and Andi was almost killed by the separation, almost! It seems that the whole NYPD and the FBI are after Andi Benton, who just wants to go home and sleep. Is she able to destroy mother, will the authorities catch up to Andi, or will Andi find the peace she’s been looking for? To be continued.
