Review: Secret Warriors # 10

Synopsis:

Quake (Daisy Johnson) has organized a team of Inhumans to bring down Captain America, who is now in league with Hydra. During the battle, the team discovered that Karnak gave his own son over to the villainous Dark Beast. He allowed the Beast to experiment on him, hoping to find a new catalyst for Inhuman powers. The team split into two factions over Karnak’s actions. Karnak would join Ennilux, the Inhuman company owned by Ahura Boltagon. Dark Beast Abducted Inferno’s niece Ariela, joined by the X-Man Magic. Our heroes tracked them to a warehouse with children that had inhuman genes. The Inhuman team was in the process of returning the children to their homes, before they were going to face Karnak, but one child was booby trapped, and he just exploded, this issue picks up at that point.

The Creative Team:

Matthew Rosenberg takes us to new heights in this continuation of the story. This issue opens with journalists covering the explosion that just happened and the Inhumans in question shut off their TV in disgust. The media reported on all that transpired and showed pictures, albeit badly drawn pictures, of the team and now they are considered fugitives on the run. Dante has a confrontation with other heroes, Nanja and Grid. Rosenberg has successfully created a maze that the Inhumans have to navigate carefully. Our heroes are now walking on eggshells as they attempt to right what happened and prove that they are not responsible for this tragedy. I love how he brings their world crashing down and creates tension among these warriors. It’s great stuff.

Garr and Robson give a slightly cartoony feel to the whole proceedings which seems to work despite the seriousness of the situation in the story. I really enjoy how they bring life to Inferno. His look is reminiscent of Johnny Storm but not imitative. The battle in the prison is summed up expertly with panels inside a main panel that makes it a quick read. All in all their panels move the story along in a great way I really enjoyed this issue a lot.

In Conclusion:

I really liked the tangled webs that this issue spins. It seems like all hope is gone for this team. While our heroes are trying to figure out how to clear their names, Karnak is busy framing them for crimes they did not commit. His crew is concerned about the future of Ennilux, while Karnak assures them that nothing will happen. Do the children that were blown up in the previous issue have any chance at survival? Will Karnak be successful in framing his former colleagues? And did Inferno steal the…to be continued! ***1/2 (8.7 rating)
