REVIEW: Sinister War No.4

Wow, “Sinister War”, the conclusion to this series was everything that I could possibly ask for as someone who has to usually be convinced by tooth and nail to read a Spider title. This is Mike Bagley (arguably the greatest to ever draw Spidey) doing what he does best, as he pencils Peter getting the brakes beaten off of him in glorious splash pages. This is Spider-Man versus 36+ villains. It’s no small feat for the man in webbed tights, and Parker’s valiant heart bleeds through every panel.

Almost every villain known to be in the Six over the years gets some form of cutaway here, and gets involved heavily in the splash pages.
With the build up from the previous issues, I enjoy how Brisson , Spencer and the rest of the team took the time to pay homage to every incarnation of the Sinister Six : possibly one of the deadliest Rogues Galleries in comic book history.

Though I was confused to see Juggernaut & Morbius there, after thier latest activity within the Marvel Universe had them painted as heroes. But all that gets thoroughly explained by the end of the story. But with the logic used to put a cap on it, I only could have wanted to see Venom featured within the panels, if his heroism was going to be put aside for this “Sinister War” ride. The homage doesn’t stop with merely just the characters though. Storylines are revisited from the fan-favorite “Superior Spider-Man”, to MY favorite “One More Day” – which leads into a shocking preface into the next chapter of the “Amazing” series.

Yes, I was turned off by Spidey’s new suit during the beginning of Spencer’s latest run, but with the right amount of nostalgia featured here in this mini-event, Bagley & Spencer and just got me back on board for the next chapter of “Amazing”, and the motivation is all here in this conclusion known “Sinister War” No.4.

Score :5/5
