Review: Spawn #314

In the previous issue of Spawn #314, She-Spawn (Jessica Priest), and Gunslinger Spawn met for the first time. Spawn encounter Monolith a creature marked with the scars of a Hellspawn. Overtkill and Cy-gor are now out of action.; right when Spawn needs them most.

In the current issue of Spawn #314, the story continues with a faceoff, of Spawn and the creature known as Monolith. The story turns as where Monolith comes from is revealed; and he brought Spawn with him. It seems as if someone has finally figured out how to tame Spawn. With science?

But the Biggest Reason to go crazy is that this is the 1st appearance of the Omega Spawn, in Canon). 1st actual appearance was in Image United #0. That is the version of Al that has unlimited Necro-power total control over all of Hell by Satan and the forces of Hell and Earth to destroy Heaven and imprison God.

There is also a surprise appearance from a Hellspawn from the past. Truth be told readers are not going to want this to be the one you just randomly jump in on and start reading. There is a lot of gravitas to the situation, that would hit better with a little more background. But I get it McFarlane likes to get in there get his point across then get out. For a second there I rolled my eyes to the back of my head because of the whole science and military feel; but know that we know who the “Master” is the twist certainly hits different.

As usual, I believe we can all agree that the best reason to keep coming back to Spawn is the interior art. The true purpose of this story is to give fans a reminder of how awesome the different costume designs for the Spawn are. Monolith looks cool, except for his pouches and mini skulls. The Skulls? Sure, why not. But he does not have a gun so why does he have the bandolier pouches?
