Review: Star Wars Poe Dameron # 22

Synopsis:

This issue opens with General Lea teaching some of her rebels how to be successful criminals. With basically the same information that it takes to be successful politicians: Lying, misdirection and an inside man. She’s teaching them these things while on a heist of course and she is going up against indescribable odds, and knows how to play poker quite well. And she doesn’t even know about the corbomite maneuver. It’s a fun issue with a game of cat and mouse at it’s heart.

The Creative Team:

Charles Soule wastes no time bringing Poe into the action. He’s clearly the new Han Solo in this franchise, but unlike Solo in the first film, he isn’t afraid to rush in where angels fear to tread, in fact, he seems to live for it. He’s the space cowboy in this series and we love him for it. There’s also an interesting sub-plot where General Lea has some goods in storage on Maccon’s world and he is demanding payment. In true Star Wars fashion Soule introduces several angles which will all play out in the end. The action is intense, the heroes are seriously out-numbered and it looks like an impossible situation once again. This is great stuff.

Angel Unzueta has a great feel for these characters and they look a lot like their actor counterparts. She does an excellent job with the long shots of X-Wing and Tie Fighters going into battle The final splash page has us yearning for the next issue. The panels are rightly rendered and help the pace of the story. Overall decent art work makes this issue a must have for any Star Wars fan.

In Conclusion:

BB-8 is acting out of character. We don’t know if Maccon is going to give Lea her property. The plot thickens as we don’t know if the rebels are going to accomplish there mission or not and General Lea gives us her final lesson in thievery. You will need a healthy dose of…Luck! To be continued. ***1/2 (8.8 rating)
