Review: STILLWATER #8

What is creepier than a horde of zombies or an abandoned town? A town where nobody dies or gets old.  This is not your daddy’s Shangri-La.

STILLWATER BY ZDARSKY & PEREZ #8 Story Recap:

Tanya Greene a cancer patient, ventures out to investigate one of the peculiarities of Stillwater, only to end up discovering a deeper darker secret. Even more interesting is Tanya’s encounter with the town sheriff which lays out how she has become entwined the town lore herself.

Art:

The artistic team consist of Ramon K Perez, and colorist Mike Spencer. There are some interesting art choices. The character design was pretty jarring till you realize that it was meant to be that way. Minute graphic details within the panels ensure there are a bunch of questions that payoff later. The moody atmospheric background ensure that you stay in the mindset of the main character.

Script:

Still weird but oddly on Point. Let’s be real I forgot what Stillwater was about, but I was able to read this issue and pick it right up. That is to say reader won’t need to go back several issues to figure out what’s going on is much appreciated.  Still not as weird anything Twin Peaks had to offer but intriguing nonetheless.

Speculation Outlook:

I’m scratching my head trying to figure out how Sex Criminals, gets chosen for adaptation but Stillwater has not. Stillwater #1, which still gets plenty of traffic at $10 raw and $65 slabbed. Another consideration is the Aaron Bartling Retailer exclusive variant ($45, and the 2 nd print).

Overall: 4/5
