REVIEW: Strange Academy #4

Strange Academy #4 B Art Adams Character Spotlight Variant (10/28/2020) MarvelIn the previous issue of Strange Academy #3, The Students from the academy had been released for the weekend without any homework.  So, they decided to spend the day in the French Quarter. Personally, this turned out how all my trip down there ended, with someone getting there ass kicked and someone crying.

In the current issue of Strange Academy #4, we are introduced to a group of beings that call themselves the Hollow, convening a meeting in the Louisiana, Bayou.  Their mission, to disrupting the academy from its use of Magic.

But the most important aspects of the issue is that feels like its world building through expanding its own universe type of issue.  Multiple panels have been dedicated to establishing how big a deal it is that Doyle is at the academy.  Information about Zoe Laveu has been revealed, regarding thee status her being alive.  But most importantly it gives a glimpse into how Zoe is getting along with her roommate Dessy. A very special game of Portal Tag reveals some new places and characters (Ogeode the Catbeast 1st Appearance Saga of Crystar, Crystal Warrior #1).  The portals lead to doors, that should not be opened and questions that hopefully will be answered in time.

Overall the most impressive character to me is still the Zoe Laveu character and her interactions with everyone.  “It is MY truth and not your place to share simply because you can see it!”“ should be on a t-shirt.

For what it is I have to give it a 5/5 stars. The intricate interior art is definitely the center of gravity, as there quite a few Easter eggs scattered about, I still find myself asking who this is targeted for.  The Slang is quite plain and doesn“t quite catch up to the language used by today“s youth.  Also the integration of “Portal Tag”“ is a bit of a stretch for me.  But I“m okay with it because it serves as a device to get us the Sanctum Sanctorum.

SCORE: 5/5
