Review: Super Sons #11

It became clear to me reading this issue of Super Sons there were two seismic shifts that had occurred in the DC Universe and either no one noticed or no one is talking about. The first, Jason Todd – the worst Robin – was no longer the worst Batman. The second, Superboy became the smelly kid super-hero.

Since the relaunch of Red Hood and the Outlaws, Todd has proven himself to be an excellent Batman, rivaling even Dick Grayson for the title. As for the worst, clearly from across the Batman family of titles, Tim Drake has worked hard to snag the title of shittiest Batman. And in this issue he continues to work hard to keep that title.

As for Jon, while I don“t know how often he bathes, it is clear that for the first time, we have a Superboy that only Damien can stand and may only stay his friend out of pity. The other teen-age super heroes don“t want to have him around and are tired of putting up with him. Which is a shame, because clearly they need his help to take down a minor group of thugs that have them on the ropes.

The problem of the Teen Titans having Drake as an enemy is that he’s been behind the formation of the last several versions of the group. He was the mind behind the tower“s security. While he may be a shitty and maniacal Batman, he still knows all their weaknesses. He has no feeling about pulling his punches either.

Peter Tomasi, Patrick Gleason and Ryan Benjamin have turned in an excellent Super Sons of Tomorrow chapter before turning the story over to the Teen Titans. In some ways they have turned in a better Teen Titans story than we usually get in Teen Titans.

I dislike when a story jumps from title to title. It forces readers to buy news books with the bait that they might like what is happening in a book that they don“t read. Unfortunately what usually happens is that they get a story that fits one title best and leaves all the others hanging.
