Review: Tap Dance Killer #3

Synopsis:

This issue opens with an interrogation of Nikki’s parents. They note that Nikki was acting strange, as if she didn’t even know them. They also wonder if she’d been doing drugs, which they believe would be unusual for her. Then we cut to a street walker named Deezy who winds up looking for a character named Ash. One of the guys she asks, Jerry, sends her to see another character named Sid. Then we go back to thirty three years ago and get a look at the history of the Romero family and here’s where the book gets interesting.

The Creative Team:

Ted Sikora is crafting an awesome gangster story within these pages. I’ll bet if Martin Scorsese ever read it he would turn it into a movie. This is so well written I’m beginning to think that real gangsters inspired some of these characters. What keeps the reader drawn to these pages is how the main characters of this title intertwine with the mob. A lot of juicy secrets come out within these pages and we get a sense that there’s a lot more to this tale than meets the eye here. Great stuff includes. Scatterbrain Dreezy’s attempt to find Ash and Carlotta’s revelation about her history with the Romero’s and her determination to gain what she feels is rightfully hers.

Nikolaus Harrison, Ted Sikora, and Chis Arieswendha bring us a realistic look with their illustrations that help enhance the gritty feel for the proceedings. The art is fantastic, I only wish there had been slightly more contrast given the subject matter, but otherwise we have a great artistic team here. They pay close attention to detail, which, at least for me, as a must in any noir style comic. Dark, gritty and realistic. Highlights include: Carlotta’s flashback scene and the first appearance of Lizzy.

In Conclusion:

These issues get more absurd as the story progresses, and that’s a good thing. Our anti-hero’s are going in for the kill at the same time that Carlotta is seeking retribution. It looks like the crazy circus is in town as they tap dance their way into the enemy’s lair. But something has gone wrong with their carefully laid plans. No spoilers here but it’s a twist I must admit I’ve never seen before. The pacing is great. I loved the build up of suspense and the payoff is well worth the cover price. Right up until Nikki discovers…to be continued **** (9.3 rating)
