Review: Thor #20

Story Thus far:

In Thor #19, Part 1 of the God of Hammers, after the events of Black Winter. Thor has been on edge even more so because Mjolnir has been stolen. We get a post cap into the creation of Mjolnir.

We already know about Odin’s having had a hand in creating it Nidavelir eons ago, so Thor 1st goes to find Odin.  The thing that 19 changes is that it cryptically insinuates that it has something to do with cosmic Entities, Namely, Entropy, and Eternity (Capt. Marvel vol 5. 3-5 ;2002). Also, the fact that Mjolnir has been imbued with the souls of trolls.  The problem is that all the trolls at the forge have been killed, by Mjolnir

In the current  issue of Thor #20, God of Hammers #2  Loki, Odin ad Thor meet to discuss the fallout.  As it turns out The God of Hammers has been going realm to realm sowing chaos, and now they blame Thor.  So, no they have been massing to strike against Asgard.  But not before a mysterious entity strike first.

Art:

Nick Klein continues to turn in great work.  Very expressive and easter egg hunting worth stuff.  In fact, this book continues to excel on panels where there is no talking, and where the creative team lets the art speak for itself.  Best situational artwork, that I have seen in a long time.  This is just another example where I wish some of the interior could have been used for the covers.

Script:

It relies heavily on the events of King Thor and the 1st four issues of this series, but the buildup has been  great, what even more interesting is the fact the big reveal may have been foretold in the latest ‘Thor: Ragnarök’ movie installment. last issue. Very cryptic, I like how Loki was brought in to explain the mythology of Mjolnir. Now Cates has to  bring it home.  Though I will concede that the big secret once the readers catch on will  makes this one and some back issues the one reader have will be looking  for.

Speculation:

Thor #20 Bianchi 1:25 was a beast before it hit the shelves, at a high of $200, before settling down to $125 buy it now. Either way its above ratio and way above retailer cost.

Covers:

THOR #20: will have three covers: CVR A:  Nic Klein; the CVR B: DEVILS REIGN VILLAIN VAR;CVR C 25 copy V Rafael Albuquerque; CVR D 25 COPY by Simone Bianchi.

Easy 5 stars out of 5.
