Review: Titans #24

“And to think my editors said my world building sucked!” – Ernest Hinton.

Synopsis:

This issue opens with the Titans voting on whether or not to include Miss Martian among their ranks. Nightwing still has reservations about letting her join. Steel and Raven come across an older gentleman sitting by himself on a park bench completely unaware of any danger that may approach him. However this old man has a few secrets of his own. Throw in a couple of demons and this is a high-octane thrill ride of an issue!

The Creative Team:

Dan Abnett shows us a Titans team ready for action. But things are so strange that the Titans don’t know who they’re fighting or who they’re supposed to be fighting. It’s a topsy-turvy landscape as these demons are adept at mind reading and certain things are revealed that may shock our super team! Great stuff includes the secrets of this seemingly innocent Ernest Hinton and the passage of our heroes to unearth. This is one strange ride unlike anything we’ve seen before in the pages of Titans and it’s compelling as well as a lot of fun. H.P. Lovecraft would be proud!

Peeples and Santorelli are bringing some jolly good panels to us as our team tries to figure out the strange apparitions that have befallen this innocent and peaceful park on a bright balmy day.  The way they draw us into a tranquil sunny day and let that serene scene explode in our faces when all hell breaks loose makes this an issue to remember! Highlights include Beast Boy’s attack on an unearth demon and earlier, Beast Boy’s clash with a unicorn.

In Conclusion:

An energy charged adventure that pits our team against the imagination of a lonely old man. In order to win they have to challenge their known senses and maybe deprive an old man of his only moments of joy. At first this issue looks like a one shot, but a clever twist ending let’s us know that there’s more to come as the old man is in contact with one of his own and Raven  is…to be continued! ***1/2 (8.5 rating)
