Review: Transformers vs The Terminator #4
Transformers vs The Terminator is a great action packed adventure with characters we love from both franchises. It gives us great characterization with Optimus, Starscream and The Terminator. The only problem is that it doesn“t quite know what to do with Sarah Connor for much of the book.
The action takes place surrounding Cyberdyne with the Decepticons threatening to destroy it as an energy source and The Terminator working to destroy as many Transformers as he can go stop them from altering his future and the formation of Skynet. This issue begins with Starscream vowing to join forces with The Terminator to help him destroy Megatron and as many other Transformers as possible with the goal of wresting ultimate power.
This is a bit of a change for Starscream, rather than simply wanting leadership of the Decepticons he seems willing to let The Terminator run rampant not only against Megatron but also against others. They work together to attack Soundwave and attempt to destroy Megatron. They initially fail to do this, but as Starscream flees from a vengeful Soundwave, the Autobots help The Terminator viciously destroy Megatron.
The series closes with Optimus uniting the remnant combined forces of Decepticons and Autobots even while Skynet“s capture of Megatron“s remains remake the future with Terminators in his form.
The art throughout the issue is classic cybernetic greatness. The female Autobots and Sarah Connor are not featured as well, both in the story and artistically. Anyone coming to this book hoping for great moments by Sarah, are going to be disappointed as she“s reduced to a damsel in distress far too much here, and then somehow is able to destroy Ravage simply by shooting him.
Alex Milne is one of the greatest Transformers artists ever and this book reminds us why. The classic battle scenes, epic destruction, and great expressiveness of the characters shows us just how great Transformers and The Terminator can be in battle. The nice twist at the end with Megatron“s destruction and the alteration in Skynet will hopefully lead to even more cybernetic crossover greatness in the future.Â
