Review: Vampireverse #3

I try not to cover all the books in a series as I sometimes feel it is difficult to talk about different aspects of the same book.  But damn, when you have a book this chaotically fun, how can I resist?  that the book has a plethora of Vampi’s is certainly an added bonus!

This book starts with a kind of “Vampi-Vision” homage before regular programming is restored as Bloodwing looks to tear apart family.  Hot on her trial is our Vampi and her gang in search of the lost pages from the Book of Prophecy.  Of course we have seen this intervention previously, with disastrous results for a Vampi or two; how will this time be different?

Thomas Sniegoski and Janine Acheson continue to deliver a story that packs more than a bite or two.  Amidst the chaos of Bloodwing, there is Vampirella in the centre of the hurricane, acting like they eye of the storm  the at is hurricane Bloodwing.  As. the good guys gang increases the dialogue starts to get a bit overstating and equalling totally understood by the characters.  Its the kind of dialogue that you could read but perhaps not say.  This very minor quibble doesn’t diminish any part of the story; in fact, it acts a fulcrum of sorts as it seems that each of the good guys has different objectives hiding in their quest to stop the big bad.

The art is again provided by Daniel Maine who has grown from strength to strength on this book.  Flipping through the pages, you have a couple of distinctly different environments, the already mentioned Vamip-Vision and the pulp era of the Vamp!  I am not going to lie, I would totally buy a The Vamp book!  Maine’s work seems to have calmed down as the chaos and fights actually increases!  Strong figure work and super spooky goings on add a supernatural element to proceedings.  Also adding to the overall vibe of the book are the excellent colors by Francesca Cittarelli who adds a level of credibility to the book, ensuring that each separate world is treated with equal respect.  The expert fonts of Taylor Esposito graces this book; surely one of the best and hardest letters out of the main two and their reliance on VC’s stable of letterers!  As you would no doubt there is a raft of covers including a cosplay.  I will say that you can’t go wrong with the main cover from Madibek Musabekov, though I will say that I hope to see Maria Sanapo’s Vampi world soon!

Vampiverse is fun book, with an interesting big bad, with a cast of possibly hundreds of Vampi’s to add nuance, depth, scope and grandeur to the idea of a multi verse, be it Vampi centric or not!

I am a long time comic book fan, being first introduced to Batman in the mid to late 70's. This led to a appreciation of classic artists like Neal Adams and Jim Aparo. Moving through the decades that followed, I have a working knowledge of a huge raft of characters with a fondness for old school characters like JSA and The Shadow
